Established in 1962 by the Richards’ family, Phillip “Squirrel” Thacker began his career at the marina in 1983 and has been servicing the needs of boaters and fisherman for many years. Now he rents out pontoon boats for anyone looking to enjoy the water.

Squirrel’s Boat Rental is located at Rock Creek Marina in Crane Hill, AL and has been located on Smith Lake since 1983. We currently rent quality, comfortable pontoon boats that can hold up to 12 passengers. If you are looking for a boat rental on Smith Lake, then look no further. Squirrel’s Boat Rental had previously been located on the Walker County side of beautiful Smith Lake, and also the home of Smith Lake’s first marina, Richards’ Marina. In 2006, Richards’ Marina was purchased and the name was changed to Grand Clearwater Resort and Marina. Squirrel’s Boat Rental and Grand Clearwater Resort had operated at the same site. Today, Squirrel’s Boat Rental is on the middle of Lewis Smith Lake. We are located at the same location as Rock Creek Marina but offer different services.
